On October 9th and 10th, 2014, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities held the conference titled “Disputes in the South China Sea: Impacts and Approaches to Peace and Cooperation” with the participation of more than 50 domestic and foreign scholars.

In the year 2013-2014, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) continued its progress in developing a research University, making the training and research quality become more internationally-standardized. On August 8th, 2014, Assoc.Prof Pham Quang Minh (Vice Rector of USSH) chaired the meeting on the strategy for scientific research until 2020, vision for 2030. Participating in the meeting were leading representatives from offices, faculties, centers and divisions.

2013 - 2014: A fruitful year with bright spots

In the academic year of 2013 – 2014, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Vietnam National University Hanoi (VNU) continued to lay solid foundations for training affairs and achieved considerable progress in research and international cooperation, while the quality of its staff was also improved. Conference on Vietnam – Japan relations to be held in 2015

On August 6th, Assoc.Prof.Dr Nguyen Van Kim (Vice Rector of USSH) welcomed and worked with Prof.Shiraishi Masaya (Waseda University, Japan) to discuss about a proposed international conference on Vietnam – Japan relations.

Strengthening cooperation with Curtin University (Australia)

On August 4th, 2014, Assoc.Prof.Dr Nguyen Van Kim (Vice Rector of USSH) had a work meeting with Prof.Anna Parkin (Faculty of Humanities, Curtin University) (Australia). Also participating in the meeting was representative from Office of International Programs and Affairs.

“The East Sea disputes have to be solved peacefully”

On July 21st, 2014, as invited by the Center for International Press of Vietnam Foreign Ministry, Prof.Dr Pham Quang Minh, Vice Rector of University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, had an interview with reporter of VOA (Voice of America) surrounding the current East Sea disputes, in which he stressed the need for a peaceful solution and preconditions for its realization. Seminars of young researchers: New studies on Japan and Asia kicked off

Since 2010, the Faculty of Oriental Studies has promoted an initiative called “Seminars of young researchers: New studies on Japan and Asia”. This project is implemented to strengthen and develop the research activities of young lecturers, facilitate the broadening of academic network among young staff and improve their debating skills and trans-disciplinary thinking.

Evaluation on Vietnamese proficiency of foreign students will be more objective and professional

At the end of last May, 2014, USSH (Hanoi National University), for the first time, launched the Standardized System of testing and evaluation on Vietnamese proficiency of foreign students. The testing method was online–based and information technology was utilized. Prof.Dr Vu Duc Nghieu (Vice Rector of USSH) - Director of the project titled “Standardized System of Criteria for Vietnamese proficiency of foreign students and tests to evaluate Vietnamese proficiency of foreign students” - provided more information about this testing model.

Changing the system for Vietnamese proficiency evaluation of foreign students

On May, 27th, 2014 the Vietnamese proficiency test for foreign students took place in University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi National University with the participation of 10 candidates from different countries such as Russia, Czech, Mozambique. It marked an important step in modernizing the testing and evaluation of Vietnamese proficiency of foreign students by Hanoi National University.

Consulting the Draft of Developmental Strategy of VNU

On May 14th, 2014, USSH held a Consulting Conference for the Draft of Development Strategy of VNU with the participation of the Party's Committee, Board of Rectors, representatives of offices, leading representatives of departments, professors, People’s Professors, and Meritorious Professors of the University. There was also Prof. Dr Nguyen Huu Duc (Vice Rector of VNU).

From Dien Bien Phu to Geneva: An international perspective

From May 6th-7th, 2014, the international conference “From Dien Bien Phu to Geneva: An international perspective” was co–held by University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH – VNU) and the French Embassy to Vietnam.
