The event took place in the context of Vietnam and China celebrating the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1950–2025), and also as an activity to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Faculty of Literature and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities.
The University of Social Sciences and Humanities' Forum is a collaborative mechanism co-founded in 2014 by the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and Honghe Academy (China), aiming to promote research cooperation, talent training, and enhance understanding among universities in the Red River Delta. In 2025, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities will assume the leading role, continuing to guide academic cooperation between Vietnamese universities and Yunnan Province (China).
The forum was attended by leaders from Vietnam National University, Hanoi; the Board of Directors and representatives from various units of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities; and leaders from 12 Vietnamese universities that are members of the Forum. On the Chinese side, the Honghe Academy – a co-founder, Yunnan University – the host of the 5th Forum, and representatives from universities in Yunnan Province participated. Scientists, lecturers, and students from both countries participated in exchanges and discussions during the professional working sessions.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lai Quoc Khanh - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, received the flag to preside over the 6th rotating session of the Forum of Rectors of Universities in the Red River Basin from Prof. Ho Kim Minh - Vice Rector of Yunnan University.
Within the framework of the program, the "Educational Exchange among Universities in the Red River Basin" took place on the campus of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, showcasing the training programs, research, and cooperation potential of nearly 30 universities. Discussion sessions focused on collaborative training and research in the fields of social sciences and humanities, natural sciences, engineering, and technology; and also announced the cooperation plan for the 2026-2027 period and nominated the host institution for the 7th Forum in China.
The 6th Forum of Rectors of Universities in the Red River Basin continues to affirm the connecting role of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in developing regional educational cooperation, contributing to deepening the long-term friendship and cooperation between Vietnamese and Chinese higher education institutions.
